How to Record StripchatVR with CaptureGem

CaptureGem's built-in StripchatVR site saves public VR shows from vr.stripchat.com, on the free version and Premium alike. It keeps the model's original VR stream, so you get the best quality. This guide walks you from installing the app to finding the saved video.

Record StripchatVR in 5 steps

Free to start, and the same steps on Windows, macOS and Linux.

  1. Step 1: Install CaptureGem

    CaptureGem is free to download and use, with no account needed. Download CaptureGem for Windows, macOS or Linux and open the desktop app.

    Use the latest release. StripchatVR support is included in both the free version and Premium; your plan only changes the recording limits and automation.

  2. Step 2: Find the model's VR room link

    Copy the model's room link from vr.stripchat.com, or just note the username at the end of it. A model's VR username is the same as their regular Stripchat username.

    The names and numbers in these examples are placeholders; use the ones from the real page.

  3. Step 3: Add the stream

    Go to the Record tab and, in the Add Stream panel, choose StripchatVR under Select Website first. Then type the username or paste the room link into Enter URL or Username.

    Stripchat and StripchatVR share the same web addresses: a link pasted while another site is selected becomes regular Stripchat, which saves the flat (non-VR) stream. Check that StripchatVR is still selected before you click Add Stream.

    Keep Monitor Only switched off so the stream is saved, then click Add Stream.

  4. Step 4: Check the recording status

    If the model is live in a public VR show when you add them, recording starts straight away and carries on in the background while CaptureGem is open. This method records public shows only.

    Hover over a status for more detail, such as the reason behind an Errored status.

  5. Step 5: Find your recording

    When a recording finishes, CaptureGem converts it into a video file; long recordings can take a little while. Open the Review tab to play, trim, tag or delete it, or click Open Video Folder on the Record tab.

    Recordings are MP4 files by default. With Premium, each file runs up to 60 minutes by default and auto-record starts the next one straight away. You can change the save location, the file length (Cap Video Segments at Duration (Minutes)) and the container in Settings.

Free version and Premium auto-record

The free version saves up to 5 minutes per recording and lets you add up to 10 models. It records a model when you add or start them while they are live, so if the model was offline, start the recording again later.

Premium removes those limits and adds auto-record: select the model on the Record tab, choose Modify Auto Record under Actions and pick Record Always. CaptureGem then records whenever the model comes online and restarts after a disconnect. To do this for every model you add, turn on Auto Record All Newly Added Models in Settings.

The Monitor tab shows live previews of everything you are recording.

Watching VR recordings

VR recordings are saved as side-by-side MP4 files whose names end in _F120_LR: a 120-degree fisheye picture with the left and right eye next to each other.

Any VR video app that opens files from your computer can play them. In HereSphere (available on Steam), open the advanced settings, choose Fisheye and side-by-side (SBS), set the field of view to 120 degrees and set the aspect ratio to auto so the picture isn't stretched.

StripchatVR notes and troubleshooting

  • Original VR stream

    The built-in StripchatVR site saves the model's original VR stream without converting it, which gives the best quality, and the file name ends in _F120_LR. Use it for public shows even if you have Premium.

  • Saved the flat stream instead of VR

    The model was added as Stripchat. Add them again with StripchatVR selected, and remove the Stripchat entry if you don't want flat recordings.

  • Public VR recording doesn't start

    Open the model's vr.stripchat.com room to check that they are in a public show and broadcasting in VR. If Stripchat is blocked on your network, the settings in the Stripchat guide apply to StripchatVR too.

  • Private shows started from your headset

    A VR private show you start from your own headset can be recorded with Premium's proxy mode in Chrome; the full StripchatVR guide on capturegem.com explains the setup.
